.JULIA KRAUSE studierte – nach einigen Jahren als Regieassistentin an den Schauspielhäusern Düsseldorf und Hamburg – Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft in Giessen, Fine Arts am Dartington College of Arts (UK) und Medienkunst an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig. 2011 erhielt sie dort ihr Diplom mit Auszeichnung.
Seitdem arbeitet sie als Künstlerin im Bereich der performativen und bildenden Künste. Sie entwickelt ortsbezogene Audiospaziergänge und -installationen und produziert Musik und akustische SetUps für Theater- und Tanzperformances. Zudem entstehen Filme, Lecture Performances und Videoinstallationen, stets mit einem besonderen Fokus in und an akustisch- musikalischen Fragestellungen.
Sie arbeitet(e) in unterschiedlichen Konstellationen und Kooperationen, u.a.: mit dem Regisseur Jens Heitjohann an Bühnen- wie Installationsprojekten, mit der Dramaturgin Friederike Thielmann an Musiktheaterprojekten, als Theatermusikerin und Sounddesignerin u.a. in unterschiedlichen Kollaborationen an dem Theater- und Diskursort Vierte Welt in Berlin-Kreuzberg, wie für die Regisseure Bernhard Mikeska, Andreas Liebmann und die Choreographinnen Begüm Erciyas, Fang Yun Lo (Polymer DMT) und Antje Velsinger.
2022 gründete sie mit Antje Velsinger und Heike Brökerhoff das Label new trouble, welches im Jahr 2023 die dreijährige Konzeptionsförderung des Landes NRW erhielt und neben (multimedialen) Bühneninszenierungen auch andere künstlerische Formate, wie beispielsweise performative Essen, Sound-Video-Installationen oder Research-Labs initiiert.
Julia Krause, lebt in Dortmund und arbeitete bislang deutschland- wie europaweit an verschiedenen Häusern der freien Szene sowie an Stadttheatern. Darunter u.a. Mousonturm Frankfurt, Pact Zollverein Essen, tanzhaus NRW Düsseldorf, Sophiensaele Berlin, STUK Leuven, Theaterhaus Gessnerallee Zürich, Theater und Orchester der Stadt Heidelberg, Frankfurt LAB, SÜDPOL Luzern, Kunstfest Weimar, Inkonst Malmö, tanzfaktur Köln, Lichthof Theater Hamburg, Landestheater Vorarlberg Bregenz, sowie auf Einladung für das Festival Schillertage in Mannheim und dem Festival Theater der Welt.
Seit einigen Jahren unterrichtet sie ebenfalls an Musik- wie Theaterhochschulen wie der HfMDK Frankfurt oder der Danske Scenekunstskole, Kopenhagen praktisch-theoretische Kurse in Akustischem Inszenieren, wie sie Workshops für Kinder & Jugendliche in Foley Sounds und Livevertonung(en) leitet – aktuell im Programmbereich Junge Szene am Theater im Depot in Dortmund.
JULIA KRAUSE studied – after several years as an assistant director at the Düsseldorf and Hamburg theatres – Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen, Fine Arts at Dartington College of Arts (UK) and Media Art at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. She received her diploma there with honours in 2011.
Since then she has been working as an artist in the field of performative and visual arts. She develops site-specific audio walks and installations and produces music and acoustic set-ups for theatre and dance performances. She also creates films, lecture performances and video installations, always with a special focus on acoustic and musical issues.
She works in various constellations and collaborations, including: with the director Jens Heitjohann on stage and installation projects, with the dramaturge Friederike Thielmann on music theatre projects, as a theatre musician and sound designer, among others. among other things in various collaborations at the theatre and discourse venue Vierte Welt in Berlin-Kreuzberg, such as for the directors Bernhard Mikeska, Andreas Liebmann and the choreographers Begüm Erciyas, Fang Yun Lo (Polymer DMT) and Antje Velsinger.
In 2022, she founded the label new trouble with Antje Velsinger and Heike Brökerhoff, which received three-year conceptual funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2023 and initiates other artistic formats such as performative food, sound video installations and research labs in addition to (multimedia) stage productions.
Julia Krause lives in Dortmund and has worked at various independent theatres and municipal theatres throughout Germany and Europe. These include Mousonturm Frankfurt, Pact Zollverein Essen, tanzhaus NRW Düsseldorf, Sophiensaele Berlin, STUK Leuven, Theaterhaus Gessnerallee Zürich, Theater und Orchester der Stadt Heidelberg, Frankfurt LAB, SÜDPOL Luzern, Kunstfest Weimar, Inkonst Malmö, tanzfaktur Köln, Lichthof Theater Hamburg, Landestheater Vorarlberg Bregenz, as well as on invitation for the Schillertage festival in Mannheim and the Theater der Welt festival.
For several years she has also been teaching practical and theoretical courses in acoustic staging at music and theatre colleges such as the HfMDK Frankfurt or the Danske Scenekunstskole, Copenhagen, as well as leading workshops for children and young people in foley sounds and live scoring – currently in the Junge Szene programme area at the Theater im Depot in Dortmund.
